The man behind the Sentinels isn't really a bad guy, according to the actor who plays him -- and there's someone else to blame for everything, anyway.
Wondering what to make of Bolivar Trask, the character played by Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage in next year's mammoth X-Men: Days of Future Past? The first thing the actor would tell you is that he's not really the bad guy in the movie, despite rumors to the contrary.
"He’s a man of science. He’s a man of invention. He actually sees what he's doing as a good thing — [his ambition is] definitely blind and he's quite arrogant. He's strove all his life for a certain respect and attention," Dinklage told Entertainment Weekly about his character, who builds the mutant-hunting Sentinels in the movie. "I didn't want to play the villain."
If Trask goes a little too far in his work, Dinklage argues, it might be because of what he has to deal with on a day-to-day basis. "He's got some hurdles," he argued. "He's up against Richard Nixon." Now we know: Nixon may have helped save the world from alien invasion, but he was also ultimately responsible for giant genocidal robots roaming America. Nixon's legacy is far more complicated than seemed immediately apparent, it appears.
X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released in May 2014.
