Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult eyed for Drake Doremus’ Equals

After making waves with his 2011 movie, Like Crazy, Drake Doremus returned to Sundance at the start of the year with Breathe In, and whilst on the press circuit for the latter, he was already talking about what he’ll do next, and now it looks like he’s getting very close to realizing that project, now revealed as being titled Equals.
Deadline reports that the writer-director is courting Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult to lead the sci-fi / romance movie, with the two set to star as the young couple who anchor the film.
Very few details are known about the film, but it’s been written by Nathan Parker, who wrote Duncan Jones’ Moon, and with Doremus at the helm, that’s really all we need to know to start getting excited.
Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin were a spectacular young couple in Like Crazy, and the prospect of Stewart and Hoult providing another one for Doremus is superb.
Stewart of course concluded her part as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga last year, and has been lining up a handful of projects since then, including next year’s Camp X-Ray and Sils Maria. It sounds like she’s moving in some very interesting directions with her movie choices, as she’s always done, and Equals would undoubtedly make for a fantastic performance from her.
Hoult, too, has been making a great name for himself in recent years. He was brilliant as Hank / Beast in X-Men: First Class, a role he’ll be reprising in next year’s anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past. He was also a real hit leading Warm Bodies earlier in the year, and will soon be seen in Jake Paltrow’s long-awaited Young Ones, alongside Michael Shannon, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Elle Fanning.
Doremus is well known for his improvisational style, and seeing Stewart and Hoult on screen in that environment would be very interesting. Production on the film is expected to begin in early 2014, so concrete casting news will hopefully be coming in soon.
