HBO Renews 'Game of Thrones' for Seasons 5 and 6

Winter will be coming for at least two more years. In a move that surprises no one given the record-breaking ratings, HBO has officially renewed Game of Thrones for two additional seasons.

Seasons 5 and 6 ensure that the drama will continue through 2016. However, that still won't be enough to tell George R.R. Martin's complete tale. The fourth season will cover the second half of the third book in the series, though there are still four more books (two of which have yet to be written).

Game of Thrones has quickly become HBO's most successful show. The fourth season premiere earned 6.6 million viewers, the most for any HBO program since the series finale of The Sopranos. It shows no signs of stopping and these extended renewals will most likely keep the Game of Thrones fanbase growing.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO.
