Saoirse Ronan and George MacKay became a real-life couple while making How I Live Now |
Saoirse Ronan has revealed how her piercings kept falling off whenever she had to kiss George MacKay in new film How I Live Now.
The Irish actress plays a rebellious American teenager who moves to England when World War III breaks out and ends up falling for her relative, played by George, in Kevin McDonald's new film.
Saoirse had to wear a lot of clip-on piercings for the role and revealed: "The weird thing was that whenever he was close, they'd pop off! But when it came to the sex scene, where it was pretty... warm in there. Nothing came off, it all stayed on. It was a bit of a miracle that night.
"I just found it really weird in itself that these piercings would only fall off when he was around - it was very strange."
Director Kevin has revealed that Saoirse and George fell for each other on set and are now dating.
He told the Irish Independent: "What happened during the course of the film, and I'm hoping that I'm not speaking out of turn, is that they fell in love and it was very easy."
"It was Saoirse's first proper boyfriend and, in a way, I think she was living through the same thing that the character is going through."
Saoirse, 19, who had her breakthrough role aged 12 in Atonement, admitted she and fellow former child star George, 21, enjoyed working with people their own age.
She said: "I was really excited about the fact there are basically only kids in this film, and that really excited me. Because a lot of the films I've done, I've been the only kid where everyone else is a grown up.
"And that's something that George and I always talked about - the fact we're always the young ones, and now we're the mother hens of the group looking after the kids. It meant the energy was very different, there was no egos, no drama, just us having a good time."
