Diesel plays Groot in Marvel film

Vin Diesel is officially set to play Groot in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy, following months of rumours and speculation.

He has joined the star-studded cast for the upcoming live-action film, which already includes Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista, reported the Marvel website, Marvel.com.

"Vin Diesel to voice Groot in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy. The action star will lend his booming voice to Marvel's epic Guardians Of The Galaxy film!" the statement read.

Director James Gunn revealed that he has been highly impressed by Vin on set.

"Yep it is completely official. AND he's amazing," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"I never knew someone could say I AM GROOT so many different ways and with such feeling (and that sounds like I'm kidding but I'm not!)."

James admitted that Vin was not "officially attached until very recently".

"He wanted to do it and we wanted him to do it but some kinks needed to be worked out," the director explained.

Vin, who will also star in Fast And Furious 7, teased the news on his Facebook with a picture of him hugging a model of the giant tree character. He previously posted a video of him walking on spring jump stilts on the Fast And Furious set, admitting that he has only one line in the film, as well as photos of Groot on the social networking site.

In Guardians Of The Galaxy, which will be released in August 2014, characters including Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris), skilled assassin Gamora (Zoe), Drax the Destroyer (Dave), Groot and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley) must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.
