On Location with Daniel Cudmore

The X-Men: Days of Future Past star on the charms of Montreal for mutants

Although the action in X-Men: Days of Future Past rockets across the globe, the film itself—which hits theaters May 23—was shot in relatively low-key Montreal. And that was just fine with the cast.

“When I was 20 years old, I was playing rugby for Canada and we did a tour through Montreal, but I didn't really get to explore,” says Daniel Cudmore, the actor who plays the mutant Colossus. “To get to come back, especially to work on X-Men, was fantastic.”

Cudmore’s role required extensive computer-generated imagery, challenging him to use his imagination extensively in order to portray a character whose enemies would be added into his scenes after filming was complete.

“As far as CGI, they just layer those dots on me and then I’m free to do my performance the way I see fit,” he says. “It’s great, because they put the makeup on and it’s not anything I really have to worry about. Most of the time I’m fighting tennis balls instead of real characters, but once you get your imagination running it’s a lot of fun.”

X-Men: DoFP trailers drop - with big new reveals!

We've seen a lot of X-Men: Days Of Future Past promotional material recently - which is fortunate, since otherwise the wait for May 23 would be just the worst thing ever. What we haven't seen, though, is one of the film's major characters: Toad.

That is, until now.

The movie's second TV spot is finally here, and it's got all of the long-tongued mutant action you could ever want - plus some great new Beast and Mystique stuff to boot.

You can check it out below:

So. New things we've learned:

- Beast seems to be able to 'Hulk' out, and go full-on Beast either at need or when under pressure.

- Toad is still going to be pretty gross. Predictably.

- Mystique is either a sensitive soul, who is easily offended - or deeply sarcastic and more than willing to bring the pain.

- No matter how many times Wolverine pops his claws out, it's still awesome.

- One new X-Men video is never enough, so a bonus Japanese trailer is always a good thing.

Oh, hey:

Now all we need is for May 23 to somehow be magically way closer than it actually is.

'X-Men: Days Of Future Past': 13 Times We Freaked Out Over The New Clip

Fire, ice and metal combine for an awesome look at the superhero sequel.

An exclusive clip from "X-Men: Days of Future Past" debuted during the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, and let me just say that is hot, icy and metallic in all the right ways. If you're anything like me, you know that the best part of any "X-Men" movie is seeing the mutants using their individual powers together to take down a bad guy. And this new clip is essentially only that. The scene comes from the beginning of the mega-sequel, which will merge two timelines of Marvel superheroes, and it's worth diving into to pick out all the moments that made me way too excited to see this movie.

1. The futuristic models of the Sentinels get dropped into the warzone.

2. Blink uses her portal-making ability to move herself and Warpath.

3. Sunspot and Bishop make a real connection. It's actually touching.

4. Absorbing fire energy is cool. Channeling it into your gun is cooler.

5. Kitty Pryde is back, and she's doing what she does best: running through stuff.

6. Is this the X-Men version of the epic "Avengers" assembled shot?

7. Because I'm totally okay with that.

8. The future Sentinels can shape-shift. Here, one goes from drill to hand mode...

9. ... which I guess really pissed off Sunspot.

10. This shot hits on a key X-Men concept. The mutants use their powers collaboratively.

11. His transformation looks better than ever.

12. And he's finally ice sliding a movie. Finally.

13. But Sentinels hate ice sliding.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens in theaters on May 23.

Anna Paquin Will Not Appear In X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Anna Paquin will not be appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past after being cut from the film.

Paquin was set to reprise her role of Rogue in a single scene in the latest X-Men film, but that has now been left on the cutting room floor.

The actress was set to appear in an action scene alongside Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart and Shawn Ashmore, but director Bryan Singer has decided that the scene will no long be included in the final cut.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Singer said: "Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it.

"But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go.

"Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it."

Paquin took on the role of Rogue for the first time back in 2000 in X-Men: she went on to reprise the role of X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

X-Men: Days of Future Past see Singer return to the director's chair in a film that will mix stars from the original franchise and X-Men: First Class.

The movie is set to see Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) travel into the past to change history and prevent a major event that will be disastrous for both mutants and humans.

X-Men: Days of Future Past' is due for release in May 2014

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Writer Explains Why Wolverine Is The Time Traveler

It's not exactly a secret that Wolverine is the A-list star of 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies. Including the cameo in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, the anti-hero mutant is the only character to appear in all of the franchise's titles, and as a result Hugh Jackman holds the record for playing the same superhero the most times in a live action comic book film. As a result, it wasn't a complete surprise when it was revealed this past summer that the plot of Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past will feature Wolverine in the story's most important role. But now screenwriter Simon Kinberg has revealed to Total Film (via SlashFilm) why having Logan be the key to the new movie's plot actually makes the most sense logically as well as economically.

The Wolverine: Hugh Jackman’s ‘Real’ X-Men Costume Revealed in Alternate Ending

By next May, Hugh Jackman will have played the mutant hero Wolverine in seven different X-Men films (including the X-Men: First Class cameo) and not once has he worn one of his iconic costumes from Marvel Comics. In the trailer, image and teaser footage of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman suits up in new duds yet again (in the future and in the ’70s). But still no classic yellow and blue – at least that we've seen.

X-MEN Days of Future Past TRAILER

Bryan Singer Says X-Men: Days Of Future Past Will Be Darker

Bryan Singer says there will be a darker edge to X-Men: Days of Future Past, compared the other films in the franchise.

Singer returns to direct an X-Men film for the first time since the success of X-2 as characters from the two franchises are set to collide.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is the sequel to X-Men: First Class but will feature much loved characters from the first series.

And while there is a darker feel to this film, Singer says the humour is still present.

During a Twitter chat he said: "Though there is a great deal of humour, the overall tone is a bit darker than previous films, particularly because of the stakes..."

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will all be reprising their roles from First Class, while the likes of Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart are all also on board.

Singer went on to talk about the cast saying: "I was real comfortable with the original cast and knew the #FirstClass cast as a writer/producer but not yet as a director. With the exception of @NicholasHoult [Beast] of course - but they were all fantastic and made the experience fun."

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 22nd May 2014.

New X-Men: Days of Future Past stills released

First look at Bryan Singer's mutant epic.

What with all the fuss about Thor: The Dark World and the Cap 2 trailer, it seems Bryan Singer doesn't want us to forget about his superhero movie.

First came the cruelly short teaser trailer for the first X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer last week (below), and now a bunch of new stills from the film have hit the internet.

The images, released via Empire and Entertainment Weekly, show most of the principal cast as X-Men new and old unite for the latest installment in 20th Century Fox's franchise.

And, as expected, it doesn't look like it's going to be an easy ride as the two mutants join forces across timelines to save their kind.

As well as the requisite game of chess between old friends Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) , we see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine bullet-ridden and hitting the bottle in 1973 while Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) look fairly worried in the present day.

Oh, and check out Future Professor X's new hover chair. It's very groovy.

X-Men: Days of Future Past to be shown in 48fps?

Rumour suggests new X-Men movie has been shot in High Frame Rate

Although High Frame Rate was met with mixed reactions, it seems that 'Days of Future Past' could be the first superhero movie shown in 48fps… even though Fox denies the rumours.
Despite the controversy surrounding the 48fps version of 'The Hobbit' it looks as though Marvel's X-Men could be the first superheroes to appear in this new, high frame rate format. But as rumours suggest that the movie has already been shot with High Frame Rate cameras, is this really the case? Or has someone mixed things up behind the scenes?
According to a source over at Ain't It Cool News, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' was shot using High Frame Rate cameras and will be shown in cinemas at the controversial 48 fps.
"[Days of Future Past] was shot in HFR and will be released in 48fps," said their source. "The filmmakers played coy because of the negative reaction to the technology when the Hobbit film was released, but love the results and will be standing behind a theatrical release in high frame rate."
Of course, this new High Frame Rate was the cause of plenty of controversy when it was used to film Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit'. It left many of us wondering why on earth they had chosen to use it in the first place, giving the film a hyper-real and almost theatre-like experience. And after leaving some cinemagoers feeling disorientated and nauseous, it just wasn't exactly the huge success we were promised.
So why would 20th Century Fox choose to use this for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'?
It looks as though maybe they haven't…
In a report by Variety, representatives from Fox have apparently denied the rumours, stating categorically that the film will not be shown in 48 fps.
"A spokesman for 20th Century Fox has denied an Internet report claiming Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be released in 48 fps," it reads. "Fox isn't sure where the rumour came from but insists the story is false."
Obviously, the studio could be attempting to keep this under wraps until a later date… but I can't help thinking that the original source just may have gotten his wires crossed. After all, we've already been told that many of Quicksilver's scenes have been shot using specialist gear to accomplish a whopping 3600 frames per second. But this is a very special instance, being used to create the effect of everything moving very slowly around a character who has super speed. And I suppose it's easy to see how the original source might have jumped to the conclusion that the entire film was being shot in high frame rates.
So for now, I'd say it's very unlikely… But I suppose we'll have to wait to find out. Still, I can't wait to see how Quicksilver's scenes turn out. But then, I doubt they're going to leave the audience feeling nauseous. Not because of the camera shots, anyway.
Do you think 'Days of Future past' will screen in 48fps? Was it all just a big misunderstanding? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
