The Originals – The Battle of New Orleans – Episode 1.21 recap

(Sorry for the delay on these last two recaps, vacation and sickness kinda got in my way, but I'm back now)

Previously on The Originals

Elijah made a treaty, everyone else seems to have ignored it. Vampire attacks, suicide bombings at the werewolf camp and Francesca Correa is a scheming bitch. Mikael wants Davina to bring him back from the dead and Klaus is making moonlight rings for his werewolf buddies. The witches are gunning for Klaus and Hayley's baby and Marcel is generall being a bit of a prat.

NOW

Ollie and Jackson are transporting the stones meant for the moonlight rings when they are stopped by police...police in the employ of Marcel and Diego. Seems like someone got word about the next stage in Klaus's plan.

JOSH HAS A DAYLIGHT RING!!! Oh yes, best thing I've seen in a while is Josh catching some rays and checking out hot joggers, but Davina has to bring the mood down, she knows things are about to get real and wants Josh out of town. She's hallucinating Mikael and things are looking bad since she's already helped Marcel with a cloaking spell, she doesn't want Josh in the middle of it all.

Meanwhile, in the swankiest wine cellar come dining room I have ever seen, Genevieve is all giddy over the spells from Esther's grimoire that she needs to make the moonlight rings. Klaus springs it on her that she isn't just making one for Hayley, but about a hundred so all the wolves will be protected, not the deal she worked out with Elijah but Klaus sweetens the deal by offering her the entire grimoire in exchange for her complete loyalty. She's not sure but Klaus reminds her that if she has anyone to fear it's her coven who want her dead, not Klaus or the wolves.

Cami has just cracked the code from the box when Rousseau's is invaded by Correa and her goons, seems she has bought the bar just to threaten Cami into handing over the key. It's clearly not for the business opportunity as there's no-one making the famous gumbo any more. Cami does a very good job of standing up to Francesca who leaves after giving Cami a deadline and a threat.

Marcel and Diego are working over Ollie and Jackson to find out what the plan is but the wolves aren't talking until Diego threatens to torch Ollie. Jackson offers up everything Marcel wants to know if they let Ollie go.

Elijah calls Klaus to tell him their stone couriers are missing, but Klaus already knows, and he's stalking the leverage he needs to get Davina to do his bidding, namely Josh, who ends up on the wrong side of Klaus's fangs! Klaus better be prepared to heal his ass, Josh is officially my second favourite character in this show now that Father K is gone. Klaus is rather miffed with the returned witch, especially since Klaus has done everything he can to keep her on side, but still she allies herself with Marcel. Davina, stop being a primadonna, do as Klaus asks and get your gay bestie back alive! Also, so glad scheming Klaus is back.

So the code in the box leads to a room in a boarding house, a completely empty looking room as Cami walks in, there isn't even a cat in the fridge...just beer. Cami for some reason goes looking in the closet in the corner and finds Father K's Narnia! There's a hidden storage room filled with all sorts of mystical and supernatural paraphernalia, including the syringe the witches used to try and kill Hayley's baby, guess that got left in the church, and a big file box labelled “FOR CAMI”.

Genevieve plays the “I was a nurse” card for the second week in a row to try and get Hayley to chill, I'm finding Gen increasingly inscrutable, last week I thought I had her pegged that she was not going to kill the baby, that she was already on Klaus's side then she went and said she'd do it anyway. This week Klaus is having to wheedle her on to his team and then she's being all nice to Hayley. Something is definitely rotten in the French Quarter.

Klaus and Elijah rescue Jackson from the warehouse despite it being rigged with a serious amount of plastic explosive. Klaus jokes that they should leave Jackson there, especially as he is competition to Elijah for Hayley's affections. At least I think it was a joke. Elijah says that the bombs are the same as those used out in the bayou, does that mean it was Marcel and not Correa that orchestrated it? Or is Marcel working with Correa to try and overthrow the Mikaelson boys? They get Jackson back to the compound and discuss their next moves. Klaus trades with Francesca for replacement stones to the ones Marcel has likely scattered in the Mississippi so that they can make their rings. Oh yeah, and Francesca knows what they are for. Seems to me that despite what she says, the human faction would not be cool with giving Klaus the means to make a werewolf army which can only result in an all out war as they try to take out the vampires. There has to be something else going on here.

After a little heart to heart between Jackson and Hayley, Jack leaves and Elijah arrives, just in time for her to tell Elijah about Jackson being her intended werewolf hubby. Elijah is all noble and accepting until Hayley pushes him for some kind of reaction...and he kisses her!!!! Oh yes, happy chair dancing over here!

Genevieve is working on the moonlight rings and requires the blood of a werewolf who doesn't turn on the full moon. Klaus refuses to let her use Hayley and offers his blood instead.

Marcel rallies his troops against Klaus again, no backing down this time apparently, and everyone seems to be willing to die for him.

Francesca busts in on witchy time to say that Marcel's army is on the way, Klaus and Elijah go to meet them, leaving Francesca, Hayley and Gen alone for some girl talk. So this time it seems Marcel's goons have brought weapons to the party, still don't think it'll get them anywhere. Marcel runs off, leading Klaus away and leaving Elijah and Francesca's goons to take on every vampire in the Quarter. Klaus and Marcel have a knock-down, drag-out in the streets of the Quarter and recriminations abound.

Meanwhile, in Narnia, Cami finds evidence that Miss Correa is not all she has presented herself to be. She's not human at all...she's one of the last descendants of the Guerrera werewolf clan that Marcel supposedly wiped out decades ago. I KNEW IT. I KNEW SHE WAS SHADY!!!

Back at the Compound Elijah is absolutely spanking the vampires, there are bodies flying everywhere. One of Francesca's goons tells her she needs to leave but she says not yet, someone wants a moonlight ring methinks... Hayley ignores a call from Cami...seriously dumb move. Gen finishes the spell and hands the stones over to Francesca who offs her bodyguard and triggers her werewolf curse. Hayley tries to stop her but Gen witchifies her.

Klaus is still kicking the crap out of Marcel and then bites him.

Cami leaves a voicemail for Hayley telling her about Francesca – oops...too late. Francesca is busy doling out moonlight stones to her brothers ready for them to go lobo and take back their city.

As the stones begin to work their magic for the werewolves something happens to Klaus. The cut Genevieve made on his palm to take his blood re-opens and he collapses. With each one of the werewolves that activates their curse he becomes weaker.

Elijah stands among the dead and dying vampires when Francesca distracts him so her brothers can bite Mr Mikaelson before setting on the remaining vampires, chasing them through the Quarter.

Klaus feeds from a janitor in Rousseau's but he still doesn't heal, Genevieve turns up like the bad penny she is and tells him why, she bound his strength into the stones. And all because he didn't really care about her.

OH CRAP – JOSH! If Klaus is all broken he can't heal everyone's fave gay vampire. Davina and Mikael have a little natter, Mikael is his usual smooth self and convinces Davina to agree to raise him from the dead in exchange for offing Klaus and providing his blood to cure Josh.

Out in the bayou Francesca meets Oliver and gives him a moonlight stone. He yells at her for the deaths that resulted from the bombing, poor misguided fool actually believed this two-faced wench but she tells him that they got exactly what they wanted. The Crescent wolves are ready to follow Jackson and thanks to the deal she made with the witches, Hayley is no longer in their way.

Marcel returns to the compound to see his guys all dead or dying from werewolf bites. Cami turns up, she's been trying to find someone to tell them about Francesca. Elijah comes storming out demanding to know where Hayley is, seems someone has misplaced the little wolf, Cami convinces him that Marcel is innocent of her abduction. Elijah asks where Klaus is and Marcel tells him what happened, Elijah realises that Genevieve is to blame.

Hayley is dragged into St Anne's chuch kicking and screaming quite literally, as a result of Genevieve's spell to knock her out she is going into labour. Monique tells Hayley exactly what they are going to do, about the sacrifice of the baby, and the fact that no-one will stop them. Out in the streets Klaus hears her screams and lets out the most primal roar and everything goes black.

I cannot possibly imagine what is going to happen in the finale but I know I will be watching with a large box of tissues and a serious doubt that I will have any fingernails left by the time it's done. Once I've got over the trauma it is bound to induce I'll be back with the recap!

The Originals – A Closer Walk With Thee – Episode 1.20 recap

There was unrest, a tentative treaty, a suicide bomber attacked the werewolves, the witches are gunning for Klaus's baby and poor Father Kieran finally succumbed to Bastiana's hex, got turned into a vampire for a bit, tried to kill Cami and Klaus staked him.

Now.

Ex-vamp Father K looks decidedly less veiny than a normal staked vamp, those New Orleans undertakers do good work. Members of various factions, including Genevieve and Marcel, come to pay their last respects to Father Kieran. Klaus walks through St Anne's to the coffin which is now closed, he lifts the lid and a baby smiles up at him. He goes to lift the baby from the coffin but before he can he is staked by Mikael and wakes up gasping.

Genevieve gives the Harvest Girls a lesson – The Other Side 101 – explaining what happens to Supernatural creatures when they die, what happens to Ancestral witches like themselves...and that basically Davina's buddy Tim is long gone. Monique asks why they are meant to care about Father K, Genevieve says that when someone important in the community dies then you should pay your respects but Monique thinks it's just so Gen can see Klaus. And as much as she tries to pretend otherwise...who can blame the woman?

Rousseau's bar is celebrating Kieran in true Irish style, there's a fiddle band in the corner and it seems like an awful lot of whiskey flowing. Drunky Klaus confesses about his nightmares to Cami and says he knows what they mean, that he is terrified he is going to repeat his father's mistakes and end up hurting his own child. She is surprised to hear him talk about being a father, but he reminds her that this isn't his first rodeo as Marcel walks in to the bar. “And it worked out so well for you the first time...why change a thing?” Cami asks as she gets up and storms off. Oooh, burn!

FLASHBACK

And oh my goodness can someone invent time travel so Klaus can go back to the 1800s and always look this good? Klaus goes to see the Governor to tell him that he's not getting his slave son back, Klaus is going to raise him. Klaus and the young Marcellus bond over their deadbeat dads.

Back in the present Marcel gets up and delivers a eulogy to Kieran and Cami slips away to mourn in peace only to be cornered by Francesca who, in the most stunning display of tactlessness and crappy timing, starts badgering Cami about the key that Kieran wore.

Hayley arrives at the wake while Elijah and Klaus share a drink. “Seems rather uncivilised, to laugh and dance around the body of a loved one.” says Klaus as Elijah tops up his glass. “Yes, far better to practice your process of grief Nikalus; denial, rage and hoarding coffins in basements.” Newsflash, I like sassy Elijah. Hayley comes to join them and Klaus demands she come back to the compound. She is against the idea, since she is more than capable of looking after herself.

Klaus confirms that he is working on both getting the moonlight rings for the werewolves and finding out who was behind the bombing of the bayou camp but for now he's gonna get good and drunk instead to try and forget about his epic daddy issues. That catches Elijah's interest cos guess what, he's been dreaming about Dad of the Millenium too! Elijah thinks it could be the witches next step, “Well then, what better way to punctuate a day of peace than by killing someone?” Klaus asks, giving the red headed witch the cutest wave.

Genevieve finds herself caught between a rock and a hard place as she is interrogated by Klaus and Elijah at the voodoo shop. She claims to be able to find out why they are both dreaming of Daddy Dearest and Klaus lets her leave, despite Elijah's protestations, assuring him that letting Genevieve live will serve all of their interests, since they need answers and a witch to make the moonlight rings.

Oh joy, bitch witch is stirring again. Is she ever going to leave Davina alone? Davina wants to perform a séance to contact her dead love Tim and she and the other harvest witch start the séance but instead of Tim they get a lot of wind and Daddy Dearest before all the windows explode. If I was needing to make a buck in New Orleans, glazing company. The number of windows Davina has bust out this season you'd be rich!

Marcel hangs with Cami at Kieran's coffin and she tells him about her run in with Francesca and he confesses he has the key to keep her safe. Cami feels a little betrayed that Marcel went behind her back to get the key from her dying uncle,

Gen provides some handy catch up for anyone who doesn't also watch The Vampire Diaries. See, there's been some magical trouble up in Mystic Falls and the “Other Side” is falling apart, which is confirmed by Klaus who has made a call to Bonnie Bennett. So DotM has chosen to spend his last moments tormenting his offspring once again before he disappears forever. Genevieve is just glad she isn't being blamed any more but doesn't leave without hitting on Klaus again. Fickle woman, just last week they were threatening each other with bodily harm and now she seems to want back into Klaus's bed. Can't say I blame her but I do get the feeling that things are not going to end well for the woman.

Hayley goes to see Francesca to accuse her of the bayou bomb. When Francesca's bodyguard tries to stop Hayley she takes him out with barely any effort, seriously, why are these Mikaelson boys so worried, the girl is clearly a badass who is more than capable of handling herself. Anyway, there's some back and forth between the two women regarding the suicide bomber and a very obvious threat towards our favourite baby mama. However Hayley has more than her share of enemies and as she leaves Francesca's rather lovely property in the Garden District bitch witch steps out from behind a tree with a voodoo doll and some witchy mumblings.

The next days dawns and it seems even mother nature is having a bit of a cry over Father K's passing as the gathered mourners shelter under umbrellas. Marcel and Cami discuss the key and he tells her that it leads to something that can be used against the supernatural elements of the city if they step out of line but Marcel hasn't worked out what the key opens yet despite hunting through the city.

The sun has come out by the time the funeral procession walks through town, Hayley is escorted by Klaus and Elijah, Francesca fakes some tears and Klaus has another go at getting Hayley to come back to the compound, for the safety of his child of course. Hayley catches up to Cami to pay her respects and also to see if she knows anything about Francesca being involved in the bombing...right before she collapses, coughing up blood. Gen spots her and the Mikaelsons swoop into hero mode.

Hayley wakes up, clearly on the Other Side (Elijah's comment about not hearing her heart beat was one clue, the slightly fuzzy blue filter...that's another) and comes face to face with DotM.

At Kieran's interment Cami figures something out, that Keiran's secret weapon might be buried with her twin, Shawn.

Gen and Klaus are trying to save Hayley, Elijah gets a little bit angry and breaks some furniture. Meanwhile, over on the Other Side, Hayley is getting a first hand crash course on why Klaus is as screwed up as he is. Gen breaks the voodoo mojo holding Hayley and she revives, but not before staking Ghost-Mikael. Nice work Hayley.

Klaus visits Hayley after her ordeal, in her bedroom. She tells him that she's moving back but on her own terms. Hayley asks what will happen once the baby is born, worried Klaus will try to take her away. Klaus shows her something, a nursery he has prepared for the baby. Antique wood crib, crystal mobile above it and the cutest freaking plushie wolf I have ever seen in my life sitting cuddling a teddy bear. It's official, Klaus is gonna be the best daddy ever! He wants their daughter to be raised by both her parents in her family home. They discuss her meeting with Mikael and he asks what he said to her, Hayley replies “nothing true.”

Genevieve calls on Elijah again to tell him that Hayley is going to be fine. Elijah thanks her and then reminds her of the havoc she has wreaked on his family but he is willing to look kindly on her if she helps him with something. He wants Hayley to have a moonlight ring so she doesn't have to turn again once the baby is born, and he is willing to give Genevieve the spells from Esther's grimoire in order to do it.

Out in the cemetery, Marcel and Cami unearth a box in Shawn's tomb that does indeed open with the key Kieran had. The box is empty but inside the lid is an inscription in the secret code that Cami and Shawn used to use. Cami can read it but she wont tell Marcel what it says, she's involved in this whole supernatural mess now and she is going to find out for herself.

Genevieve confronts Monique over the Hayley voodoo murder attempt, Monique says she was only doing what the ancestors want in killing the baby but Gen points out that since the baby is part witch she needs to be born first so that when she dies her power can feed their coven. Anyone else not buying that? I think Gen has realised that if she wants to live she cannot go against Klaus so she's making excuses for not acting. That and she still wants to get her grubby mitts on Esther's grimoire. She goes to the cemetery and performs a spell begging to be released from her commitment to killing the baby. Some mystical force slams her off several tombs and makes her start crying blood until she capitulates and says she will kill the baby.

Klaus asks Elijah if he thinks that when Mikael is truly gone he will ever find peace. Elijah suggests that it's not just their dead father that haunts Klaus, but the man he raised as a son too and that he and Marcel need to make peace. Somehow I don't see that happening but this show does like to keep me on my toes so I guess it's possible.

FLASHBACK to the plantation and Marcel demanding the freedom of some of the slaves, he's mocked by his father, the plantation owner, for the fact he hasn't been turned yet. Marcel intervenes when one of the slaves is whipped only for the plantation owner to shoot him. Klaus tries to heal him but Marcel gives him an ultimatum, turn him or let him die. Klaus reveals his reluctance but Marcel is adamant, he wants to be a vampire. Klaus gives him his wish and turns him. It seems like Klaus didn't want Marcel to become like him, because of how badly damaged his own father had made him.

Klaus meets Marcel to warn him that his grace period in the Quarter is almost up, and instead of being gracious he decides to use the little time he has left to tell Klaus that he knows what he's up to and that he's not going to stand back and fall in line. Klaus is understandably pissed, Marcel brought Mikael to town a century ago despite knowing what it was like to be hated by his own father, and even though Klaus had done all he could to be a better father to Marcel than either of their own fathers had been. Klaus asks how he failed and Marcel replies that perhaps the scars ran too deep, as Klaus walks away Marcel says that Klaus didn't fail him, he raised him and taught him everything. And that's why he's going fight Klaus and whatever he has planned. Klaus says he would expect nothing less and am I going crazy or is there the most fleeting look of paternal pride on Klaus's face?

Elijah and Hayley dance around their feelings yet again before Hayley plants a spectacular kiss on him and I think the fandom probably exploded with jubilant cheering right before they all screamed at their TVs as Elijah left the room yet again. At least Hayley was left with a smile on her face this time.

Davina hears the windchimes and thinks maybe Tim has finally come to her but no, it's Mikael again and he's back with a purpose this time. He promises to kill Klaus for Davina, but only once Davina brings him back to life!

Anyone else get the feeling that the final two episodes are going to result in a lot of nail chewing, screaming at the tv and then being left utterly bereft as summer stretches out ahead with no more of this amazing show to watch until Fall? Is it too early to be in denial?

The Originals – An Unblinking Death – Episode 19 recap

The fragile peace that Elijah has created balances on a knife edge, the wolves are plotting with Klaus to steal power and Father Kieran's days are numbered thanks to those pesky witches and their curse.

Now.

Kieran is hallucinating the witch who cursed him and his nephew instead of Cami and Josh, when she catches a brief glimpse of his true personality underneath the crazy she comes up with a plan. I think I know what Cami has in mind...and I'm pretty sure it puts her on a level even crazier than her poor uncle.

Klaus is hunting for his mother's grimoire which Elijah has hidden from him since he knows Klaus is up to something with the wolves. Klaus says he's only doing it to help the Crescent pack. The idea of Klaus playing champion to anyone other than his own selfish interests would almost be laughable if there wasn't just the hint that he's actually interested in helping them to ensure Hayley's safety. Elijah says he is determined to prevent a war starting to which Klaus replies that war was pretty much a foregone conclusion before they ever set foot back in the city.

Back in the attic of the crazies, Cami tells Marcel not to come to see her and then Josh rocks up with a cute doctor in tow.

Marcel calls Klaus to tell him that Kieran is going downhill and Cami needs someone, despite knowing that Klaus wants him dead.

Josh compels the doctor to chill out and just look after him. Cami asks him about ECT as a treatment for psychosis. Yeah, there it is. You really think frying your uncle's brain is the way to help him?

Out in the swamp Eve is playing midwife to Hayley who is worried that since she never had a mother of her own she's not going to know what to do when her baby is born. Elijah turns up to have a chat to her and her co-conspirators about their plan with Klaus. While they are chatting they hear an engine and all run out just in time to have a very brief chat with a guy on a motorbike before it goes boom. Elijah, Jackson, Oliver and Hayley are all down, Hayley is first up and runs to help those injured. The bomb was spiked with wolfsbane so whoever sent it Hayley snaps into mama wolf mode, tending to the injured. I think she's gonna make a pretty good mother.

Oliver snaps, blaming the vampires for the attack and wants to go after them, but a good mother wolf protects her cubs right? We've all seen what Hayley is capable of when she's riled up, remember that plank to the face for Sabine/Celeste? Well I think she's plenty riled up after this and she heads straight for Marcel.

Back with the crazy priest in the attic he's being prepped for Electro-Shock therapy, Kieran snarls at poor Josh that “There's a special place in hell for your kind.” to which everyone's favourite gay vampire replies “Not the first time I've heard that one.” 

Klaus arrives to try and talk Cami out of frying her uncle's brain. The doctor begs her not to make him do it, so the mad blonde (seriously, starting to wonder who the crazy person in this attic really is) does it herself.

Hayley calls to ask Elijah to look after the pack while she goes on her potentially suicidal mission to kill Marcel. He and Jackson discuss the fact that the bomb went off in the open being a saving grace as it did not result in fatalities. As they walk into the central clearing the entire pack seems to be gathered there, at which Elijah realises that it was a set up, the entire camp has been rigged. Right as everything goes boom.

Kieran wakes up after round one of having his brain fried and seems to be lucid for all of about 5 seconds so Cami obviously thinks she needs to keep going. Klaus lays it on the line for Cami, this so called “treatment” is going to kill her uncle even faster than the hex will and that she needs to let go.

Back in the bayou there are dead werewolves everywhere and Oliver and Elijah rescue Eve from being pinned under a caravan.

Hayley is on a rampage and works Diego over pretty well in her search for Marcel's whereabouts.

Cute doctor wants to talk to the witches responsible for Kieran's hex cos he thinks it's fascinating. While Josh is distracted by the cute doctor's inane ramblings Kieran bites off his own thumb and slips his restraints to try and attack the doctor. While Klaus is holding down Kieran, preventing him from harming anyone else he has a cosy little phone chat with Hayley about the bombing. Mama Wolf lies to the big bad Hybrid about the fact she's alone in her hunt for Marcel, saying Elijah is with her. But he's not, he's back in the bayou finding out that the reason why Eve isn't healing from her wounds is because although she carries the werewolf gene she has never killed anyone, so she never activated her curse. I always wondered why the wolf form curse never affected her, why she remained human, guess that's why. Oliver storms out when Jackson denies his desire to go out and take revenge.

Hayley and Marcel have a nice little chat and he drops some serious knowledge on her about her family's history and their enemies. Her family tried to take the city back in the 90s, which is why he had them cursed, it was either that or kill them and as we know he doesn't like to harm children. Hayley says she's heard that about him and he replies that she did more than hear, and then calls her by her true name, Andrea Labonaire.

Klaus has apparently been practicing his amateur medical skills since pulling daggers out of his brother a few months ago and gives a demonstration when Kieran goes into cardiac arrest, plunging his hand into the poor guy's chest to massage his heart. Cami asks if Klaus's blood would help, but at this point Klaus says it would only mean Kieran coming back as a vampire in transition, but that he might still be hexed. Cami begs Klaus to turn her uncle and he does so, grudgingly. It does seem that he wanted to let Kieran die with some dignity but that he could not deny Cami in her time of need.

Marcel tells Hayley that he was the one who saved her after her parents were killed and gave her to the priest. He hands her a bag of money and stuff to try and get her out of town, hoping that Klaus and Elijah would follow her but she refuses it. As a parting shot Marcel lets Hayley know that the gossip in town suggests that the suicide bomber was in debt to the casinos, or more specifically the humans that run them. I knew it, I knew that slimy wench Francesca wasn't to be trusted any farther than I could throw her (not very far, bad shoulder).

Klaus talks Cami through what is going to happen next, he has to go see to Hayley but he promises to be back before Kieran wakes up. Cami realises how much Kieran will hate her for turning him into a vampire but Klaus again reassures her that Kieran will not become a vampire, this was only a way for Cami to be able to say goodbye to her uncle. Klaus once again cannot deny Cami when she asks him to stay and he remains with her instead of going to see Hayley.

Back in the bayou the wounded werewolves are being treated while Elijah and Jackson talk about Klaus's plan. Jackson says that if the rings work it won't just free them from the pain of turning but it will release them from the hatred they have had to deal with their entire lives. Elijah questions the werewolf's intentions toward Hayley, Jackson says he wants to make the bayou a safe place for her and the baby. Why is Elijah so damned hard to read? That look on his face could be a 'never in a million years mate' just as easily as it could be a 'this guy is a stand up dude and I think I shouldn't be such a dick to him'.

Kieran wakes up, lucid at last and the mark of the hex is gone. Klaus tells Kieran about his newly undead state while Cami whimpers in the corner and Kieran confirms that he won't complete the transition. Klaus leaves them alone after Cami thanks him for being kind which is a complete 180 for her all things considered.

Oliver is watching over Eve, he begs her to trigger the curse, become what she truly is, so that she can heal. He starts ranting about the state of the werewolves and Eve realises something is wrong, that he was the one who set up the bombing to try and galvanise the werewolves into action. Oliver kills the poor, helpless werewolf woman to prevent his secret getting out – who the hell is going to help Hayley with the birth now?

Cami brings Kieran a collection of items that he has requested except for the key that he normally wears around his neck, she couldn't find it. Kieran tells her it's an important part of their family legacy and that she must find it. Kieran apologises for ever getting Cami involved in all the supernatural crap that she is dealing with and then they say their goodbyes.

Hayley returns to the bayou to find Oliver inciting the pack to revenge and Elijah advises her that Jackson will need her help since in times of trouble people do not look for the best, but for the loudest voice.

Kieran dons his robes and prays one final time as Klaus goes to see Genevieve to question her about the explosion. Genevieve is still jealous about Cami, and comments what a pity it is about Kieran. Klaus tells her that Kieran has been released from the hex by his death, that he is in transition but Genevieve has one last barb to throw. The hex is back and Kieran has lost it. He picks up a crucifix and pulls it apart to reveal a hidden blade, intending to take his own life as his nephew did before him but Bastiana appears to him once more and tells him there is still work to be done. The boundary spell is down now that he is dead and he leaves the attic.

Evil Kieran slashes Cami and licks her blood from the knife (which might just be the single hottest thing I have seen in this show so far), thus completing his transition. Cami jumps from the balcony to avoid her uncle's fangs but he follows her downstairs and chucks her about a bit before he drags her to the altar. His hallucinations of Bastiana and Shawn exhort him to kill Cami and he bares his fangs and goes for the kill, as Klaus arrives and snaps his neck. Cami falls to the ground as Klaus pulls Kieran's prone body back. He looks to Cami and she gives him permission to end her uncle's life permanently. Klaus does so, murmuring that Kieran deserved far better. Not sure he deserved better, cos he's had one hell of a storyline, but I wish they'd let him have more. Watching Todd Stashwick make Father Kieran into such a well rounded, conflicted, totally human character has been an absolute pleasure this season. His departure is going to leave a bigger hole in the show for me than Claire Holt's has (mostly cos we all know Rebekah will be back at some point) and I hope that they can find a way to bring him back in future, even if only as flashbacks or as a spirit, but I wish him all the best with his next project.

Klaus calls Marcel to tell him Kieran is dead and that he is free to return to the Quarter for 24 hours to pay his respects and comfort Cami. After doing so he meets with Diego and Josh, and Josh gives him the key that Cami had been looking for, having taken it from Kieran at Marcel's order. He tells them that people will be looking for the key and that Cami isn't ready to handle that, and that war is brewing and they need to prepare.

Klaus returns home and asks Elijah is he's ready to give up his quest for peace, Elijah responds by giving Klaus the grimoire he'd been searching for earlier. It seems spending time with the werewolves during their crisis has softened Elijah to their plight, and I'm pretty sure that speech from Jackson actually hit right where it was meant to, nice one wolfboy.

Elijah pours two drinks as he tells Klaus, “The rifts in this city run far deeper than I even imagined Niklaus. These tribes, these factions, they're families. And families will choose to fight. Mayhem has descended upon our home and if I'm to choose a side. To our victory brother.”

Considering the venom that Elijah spewed at Klaus last week after Marcel's attack on the witch festival and the tension that has been eating at their familial bond ever since Rebekah's century old betrayal was revealed I cannot tell you how happy I was to hear Elijah say that. Now all we need is for Klaus to stop sneaking around behind his brother's back cos if these two actually stood united for once then I really don't think there is anyone who can stand against them.

The Originals – Episode 1.18 – The Big Uneasy recap

Previously on The Originals

Elijah nags Klaus into doing something other than painting. Cami shacks up with Marcel while Genevieve spies on them with magic. Monique bullies Davina cos her magic is on the fritz. Marcel is planning a move against the Mikaelsons and Klaus is offering magical rings to the werewolves of Hayley's pack to give them superiority.

Now

Klaus is painting Genevieve but won't let her see the finished piece, saying instead that it is a gift to cement their pact. Oops, she thinks there's actually something going on between them but Klaus only seems to want her for what she can provide. He tells her that if she is supported by Klaus no-one can stand against her. She asks what he wants in return, “you never know when a powerful witch might come in handy.” he replies. I think she was hoping for a bit more than that.

The returned Harvest witches are doing something weird in a tomb, and by weird I mean headstands and wannabe contortionist acts while they chant in French. Suddenly Monique is taken over by the spirits of her ancestors who give her the nod to off Genevieve so that the fourth Harvest girl can come back.

Morning in the Quarter brings a much more casual looking Elijah and a bunch of workmen digging up the courtyard in the compound, luring a cranky Klaus out of his rooms. Genevieve sweet talks Elijah into allowing the witches to celebrate their ritual feast days in the open, something that wasn't allowed under Marcel's rule. She wants to start with the Feast of the Blessings, members of the community bring offerings to the witches in exchange for favours. Elijah is a little sceptical since the witches have been nothing but a pain in the backside for his family since they returned and it was Genevieve, after all, who held Klaus and Rebekah and tortured them in the mental asylum a little while ago.

The brothers have a wee chat, Klaus is all for the festival saying it will please the tourists and cement the alliance Elijah has created. Elijah remains dubious of both the party and his brother's dalliance with the red headed witch and asks whether Klaus shouldn't be more attentive to Hayley rather than the witch, seeing as his child should be born any day now (right? Come on, it can't possibly be long now right?!). Klaus drops the hard truth that despite Elijah's best intentions Hayley is far better off with her pack than living in the city for now, but that no child of his will be born in a swamp.

Cut to said swamp and Hayley standing looking at a long line of werewolves from other packs who, according to Oliver, are there to see her, the long lost werewolf messiah.

Oliver gets a call and walks away to take it, lucky these werewolves don't have enhanced hearing like the vampires do eh otherwise Hayley would be able to hear him having a chat with her baby daddy. Klaus has tasked Oliver with finding Cary, the wolf from Klaus's own pack who arrived a while back bearing Esther's ring. Oliver hasn't found him yet due to the truckloads of wolves who are turning up in the bayou for Hayley. Klaus presses how important it is and then lets Oliver know about Elijah's little gathering and the fact the werewolves need to be there.

Klaus goes to see Cami to tell her he may have a way to fix her uncle (yep, we're all still praying for that right?!), she assumes he means Genevieve and gets all catty about it. Klaus tells her she can say no if she has an alternative, Cami quickly does just that and Klaus walks away but she was lying. “Do whatever you have to do, just help him.”

Across the city Thierry is trying to convince Marcel to use Klaus's attraction to Cami for their own gain but Marcel doesn't want to involve her, he still likes her and doesn't want her getting hurt. Thierry seems to have become a voice of reason during his time in the Garden, must have been all that alone time. He asks what Marcel is going to do if he finds out what Klaus is up to with the witches, tell Elijah? Oh, wait, that's right, Elijah will kill him if he goes near the Quarter. Marcel reckons he can use the thousand years of family drama that already exists between the brothers to bring them down, it's a powder keg and all they need is a match. Thierry asks where they can buy those matches since they have nothing. Marcel reminds Thierry that he had nothing once before, before he turned Thierry and then the whole city was theirs for the taking.

Monique confronts Genevieve to tell her it's her time to die according to the ancestors (Sidebar – can I have Genevieve's coat please?) Genevieve says fine but that it's not her time yet, they might be out from under Marcel's rule but now the witches have to answer to Elijah instead. Genevieve has a plan she wants to complete to get them what they deserve before she sacrifices herself and lets the final Harvest girl come back. She's going to steal Esther's spellbook.

Diego scoffs at Elijah's invitation to the festival but Elijah isn't having it, he's inviting everyone who signed the treaty (Sidebar – snazzy matching boots and jacket Diego) and they are expected to attend and bring a gift or be removed from their positions as representative of their faction. This includes the new head of the human faction, Miss Correa (still not sure about this one, she just doesn't seem right to me, but then any human so willing to ally with vampires, witches and werewolves has got to be a bit off right?). With the vampire and human representatives on board Elijah must now sweet talk Hayley, but she is having none of it until Jackson and Oliver intervene and accept on her behalf. Elijah suspects something is wrong and warns Hayley not to trust her pack. Shame he isn't quite so perceptive around his brother eh?

Back in the city Oliver arrives at St Anne's church with Cary, Klaus's werewolf kin. There's some bad blood between the Crescent pack and the North East Atlantic pack (Klaus's bloodline) and Oliver isn't Cary's biggest fan. Klaus suggests that it is this rivalry between packs that is responsible for their low standing in the supernatural pecking order. Klaus wants Cary to tell him what stone was in his mother's ring and sets him on the path to find out, one presumes so they can set about making moonlight rings for all of the werewolves.

Diego and Thierry have a chat about the rebellion against the New Mikaelson Order and Marcel reveals himself to be the brains behind this move. Diego isn't going to be a part of it since he remembers what happened the last time he stood with Marcel against an Original (which reminds me, I take it back, I've almost grown quite fond of Diego, I'm glad Klaus didn't tear his head off back in The River in Reverse). Is Marcel really stupid enough to think that his plan to “make enough noise” is going to scare off Klaus and Elijah? Does he not remember what it took to get rid of them back in 1919...you know, the whole Mikael summoning, city wide panic and burning thing?

Diego calls Marcel out for picking up the coin and surrendering to Klaus in the first place, Marcel suggests that a good leader knows when to surrender to live to fight another day. Yeah, had nothing to do with your girlfriend begging you to pick up the coin before Klaus tore you limb from limb right? When Diego leaves after telling Marcel and Thierry that they will be fighting against him if they do anything Marcel says it's time to get more persuasive.

Back out in the bog, Hayley interrupts Jackson and Oliver's little chat. Oliver won't tell her what's going on so Hayley gets a little hormonal mama wolf on his ass, slams him into the side of a building and demands information. Oliver is apparently scared of Elijah finding out what's going on and still won't talk (I'd be more scared of Klaus mate. If Elijah finds out what you've got going on with his little brother and confronts Klaus...well there's not a swamp in the world deep enough to hide from him in.) but Jackson spills the beans about their little deal with Klaus.

Klaus goes to Genevieve to ask him to help fix Father K, Cami's uncle. Shame she doesn't realise she's got so much more going on than the blonde does. Why do I get the feeling she's going to drop a bombshell about Cami and Marcel hooking up last week to Klaus soon? If you want to explode this already fragile balance that's a pretty sure fire way to do it. Raging hybrid on a murderous rampage? That could be all kinds of fun to watch. Anyway, she says she can't help, but perhaps there would be something in Esther's spellbook that might, since she was so powerful and all. Klaus slams the witch into a table and once again I wish for someone handy with a body swap spell as he gets rather up close and personal to tell her that whatever she thinks she is playing at will not work. She witchifies his brain to get free and tells him that their little booty call agreement is over.

Festival time, the streets are packed as the Harvest girls are carried through the city, Elijah watches on as his invited guests begin to arrive with their guests. Genevieve sends one of her lackeys off to the compound to steal Esther's grimoire while the witches kick things off. Mini earthquake from Monique, a strong breeze from the other one (have they even given this girl a name? She seems to be decoration more than anything else poor thing.) and then some fireworks from Davina, that's right, these girls all had elemental powers, I guess water witch is the one we will get back once Genevieve sacrifices herself.

While the city is distracted Genevieve's minion sneaks into the compound and walks straight up to the grimoire lying on a table in the courtyard and is then surprised when Klaus appears on the balcony. Dude? Really? You thought it was going to be that easy? These witches really are not the brightest are they?

Anyway, now that the public bit of the festival is over the witches head off to receive their presents. Davina has a bit of a snark at Elijah cos Klaus killed her one true love and isn't dead yet but Genevieve tells her to play nice and then thanks him for the party. He brushes her off, he knows this was the only way to get the witches on board with the treaty.

Next to arrive is everyone's favourite pregnant werewolf and it all gets a bit passive aggressive...minus the passive. Elijah is surprised she is not flanked by Jackson and Oliver, she replies that he asked for a representative so “take me or leave me.” Well now Miss Marshall, a little provocative don't you think? Elijah offers her his arms and walks her inside.

Monique is still on a power trip and whining about Davina, she moans about having lost her mother and her aunt (who she killed, but yes, oh woe is you little miss too big for your boots) while Davina has lost nothing. Genevieve is clearly planning something tonight, although when isn't she? The girls take their places on the stage and people start bringing in their offerings but instead of being able to give them to the witch they want they are ordered to give them to Monique and Middle Witch, leaving Davina with nothing.

Cami brings a gift to Genevieve to try and get her to help Kieran, bringing up something Klaus said about Genevieve being cheated out of life, which is exactly what is happening to Kieran. The gift is a beautiful hair comb and the sentimentality of the moment seems to work in Cami's favour and Gen agrees to help.

Davina is about to leave the party when her gay vampire BFF turns up to see her big day but she's not enjoying it so they are about to leave when Klaus shows up. That's the Klaus who still wants to rip Josh's spine out through his nose for betraying him when Marcel's goons tried to take him down. Davina tries to intimidate Klaus but thankfully she's lost most of her mojo and Klaus seems to be getting his swagger back. This has never been more evident than in the fantastic speech he procedes to deliver on the stairs in the main hall.

“Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please? We are gathered here today to pay homage to our beloved witches, but one very special witch has been utterly ignored. That seems a little unfair to me.”

He offers a small box to Davina who refuses it.

“I understand why you would reject me, given our past. In truth, many of us here today have been wronged in the conflict which my brother's treaty ended. Your friend Josh was involved in a plot to kill me, it would be well within my right to execute him here and now. But, in the spirit of solidarity and for your favour Davina, I hereby pardon him. From this day forward you have nothing to fear from me.”

I love that Joseph Morgan seems to know how far he can push the dramatic flair with Klaus without becoming an OTT, scenery chewing, moustache twirling parody and this speech shows that so well.

Anyway, Davina accepts the box, much to the chagrin of Genevieve whose plan to put Davina in her place has backfired in spectacular fashion. She opens it in front of Josh to find a lapis lazuli ring and the spell needed to make it a daylight ring. Oh yeah, Josh is getting a daylight ring. My plea for more Josh and Davina has been answered!

Klaus and Hayley have a little catch up, Hayley is concerned that Klaus is betraying Elijah, Klaus isn't sure why she cares as long as the werewolves benefit.

“You know you've come a long way little wolf, I knew you were tough, I knew you were cunning, but I never knew you were a Queen.” Klaus says with a smile and then leaves her.

A group of men walk in playing drums and deliver a message from Marcel. That message is a bunch of slit wrists in a room full of vampires barely holding themselves in check. Elijah tries to keep the situation in hand but then the lights go out and all hell breaks loose. Blood and death ensue and even though he seemed more concerned about his treaty before Elijah now only cares about one thing, Hayley. They stand together and notice a message, in blood, on the wall. There Will Be No Peace. The drummer guys are all dead...wonder who wrote that? Maybe Diego is aiding Marcel after all, or was is someone else sneaking in under cover of darkness?

Thierry reports back to Marcel that the night went to plan, and that Davina was safe before anything happened. Marcel looks pleased right before Hurricane Elijah screams into their little hidey hole. Marcel tries to bargain his knowledge of Klaus's dealings with Genevieve and the werewolves for his life, so Elijah kills Thierry instead.

Klaus brings his offering to Genevieve, it's some hands in a box. He's got a real thing about body parts in boxes this one ;)

Genevieve says that Klaus should be afraid of her and then walks away,

“It's a pity. I will miss the sex.”

Genevieve tells Klaus that he's pretty much just signed Kieran's death warrant and then she does it, drops the bombshell that Cami is sleeping with Marcel.

Hayley realises that she needs to go along with the plan Klaus has set in motion to give the werewolves superiority, but only as long as she is privy to everything and that

they do not trust Klaus.

Back at the Mikaelson's compound Klaus returns to see a bloodied Elijah, fresh from exacting his revenge on Thierry.

“If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results then surely my quest for your salvations ranks me as one of the maddest of men.”

Elijah confronts Klaus over his alliance with the wolves which Klaus defends as family loyalty, considering that in all truth he cannot call himself Mikaelson since the very name implies a relationship with Mikael that Klaus does not have. Elijah is less than pleased that Klaus is willing to throw away the bonds that have bound them for a thousand years, but Klaus is not happy at Elijah's suggestion that Klaus neglect his new found family even though it would benefit Hayley and the baby.

Klaus taunts Elijah over his feelings for Hayley and Elijah lashes out, for the good of their family Elijah has denied those feelings as he hoped that Klaus would live up to his responsibilities to Hayley and the baby, but it's clear now that is never going to happen. Elijah is done, and he is going to finally take what he wants for a change.

Cami finds Klaus drunk and morose since he's screwed up and Father Kieran is going to die. Cami asks why he is telling her and he says that he believes “secrets are a poison that need to be spat out”, well now it's about time someone in the Mikaelson family realised that, could have saved them all centuries of pain. He asks about her little hook up with Marcel and Cami says that this was what Klaus wanted, he did compel her to date Marcel after all, he's just pissed off cos when it finally happened he wasn't pulling the strings any more. Klaus passes on Marcel's death sentence through Cami and leaves.

Elijah is out in the bayou watching Hayley laugh and joke with her pack. Eve, the blonde who staked him when he was suffering from Klaus's bite a while back is keeping an eye on her for Elijah. He watches as Hayley lets Jackson feel the baby kicking, says he only wants her to be happy and then leaves.

Marcel eulogises Thierry to Josh and vows to take back the city in his memory. Diego and several of Marcel's old crew turn up and agree to side with Marcel, no backing down. Well this can't end well for any of them.

Monique confronts Genevieve and is going to kill her when she is suddenly taken over by the spirits again who give her the message that rather than killing Genevieve they want to kill Hayley's baby.

So the vampires are aligning against the Mikaelsons, the wolves are willing to team up with Klaus but not trust him and the witches are gunning for the baby now. I think Marcel was right, this powder keg is ready to blow!

The Originals – Episode 1.17 - Moon Over Bourbon Street recap

I bet you all thought I had run away, 1 recap and then nothing for weeks. Well The Originals was on a very painful month-long hiatus so I figured I'd hold my recap back until the show was about to restart again before posting. Hopefully this will leave you guys ready and raring for the new episode tomorrow night. So, here we go.

Klaus sent Rebekah packing (*sobs* I'm never going to be over that), Hayley threw a "Yay you're human for the night" party for her near perma-furry family that ended up with her finding out she's been technically engaged since birth. Father K got hexed, Davina was a basketcase who couldn't do magic and Elijah started behaving more like Klaus than himself when he exiled Marcel from the only home he'd ever known.

And now...

KLAUS IS PAINTING!!!!! Well now that's been a long time coming!

Klaus talks about how time heals all wounds but it's dependent on the wound as we see Hayley at the half moon with wolf Jackson, and poor Father Kieran dealing with his hex. Marcel looks out over the city he's been banished from and it seems like someone might have a plan in mind.

The Originals:Farewell to Storyville recap

Previously on the Originals
Elijah tried to support Klaus even though he's basically unhinged. Rebekah got a bit miffed cos Klaus wouldn't let her shack up with a man he'd raised to be as unhinged as himself so she called on a witch to summon Dad of the Millennium (DotM) Mikael to come scare Klaus off.
A century later that witch told Klaus everything making him a little bit cross and then another witch trapped all three of the Mikaelson siblings in a graveyard with 2 nasty weapons and a whole lot of angst.


Flashback time.
First up, how cute are these child actors and how much did the casting department get them spot on.
Young Rebekah is frightened of a storm and young Klaus comforts her and gives her a wooden knight he has carved for his father and promises to stay with her no matter what. Oh boy, I'm welling up already.


Present day
Elijah armed with Tunde's blade and Klaus armed with the indestructible white oak stake faceoff, Elijah attempts to reason with Klaus in defence of their sister while playing cat and mouse around the tombs. Elijah seems to have grown a serious pair since offing Celeste for good last week and it really suits him.

Marcel talks to Bekah on the phone while he goes to see the newly resurrected Davina and play nice in the hopes she'll be able to break the boundary spell, releasing Rebekah. Funnily enough returning from the dead after spending several months’ siding against your people with a bunch of vampires didn't exactly make for a very uplifting experience for the poor kid. Not quite sure what Marcel was expecting here, Monique came back and immediately went dark side, was he really expecting she'd be cool?


Sun's come up in the cemetery and no-one is bloody, have these two have just been having some kind of Zoolander-esque walk off to pass the time. Klaus brings up Elijah stabbing him with Tunde's blade and shifts his anger towards big brother for a bit. Why do I get the feeling someone might end up in a little bit of pain sometime soon? And I don't mean Klaus. Then Elijah pulls the dick move of telling Klaus he looks like their dad. Honestly, do these people really think that's going to help matters?


Oooh, another flashback. Elijah is teaching Klaus to shoot a bow when DotM shows up and kicks the crap out of Klaus basically just for breathing (Sidebar – I totally have a miniature version of the brooch Young Elijah is wearing). He stops Elijah teaching Klaus to shoot, then berates the poor kid for not being able to hunt...well if you won't teach him and you won't let his older brother do it how is the poor kid meant to learn?


“You ask me to show mercy to one who has wronged me?” Can someone give Klaus a dictionary? Who else would you show mercy to?
Then Bekah turns up and things all get a bit tense. I've got to say, this episode not filling me with warm fuzzies yet.


Back in the Quarter Cami comes to visit Davina, yep, cos the kid really needs psycho-analysing right now. Basically this whole scene is a plot device for Marcel to find out that Davina isn't going to be any use to him...which he probably should have figured out already. Downstairs a very casual looking Father K (considering the dude is walking a tightrope towards oblivion right now) lays it on the line for Marcel and makes him realise just how much trouble he is really in.
“So a century ago you betrayed Klaus, the most dangerous vampire in history and the only one that can save you is the girl you had locked up in my attic but she's a basket case so really your only hope is my niece, psycho-analyst to resurrected teen witches. Does that about sum it up?”
I stand by everything I've said online before now, a spin-off series of Klaus and Father Kieran sitting in a bar drinking Irish Whiskey and bitching about everyone else would be awesome. I'd tune in every week!


Anyway, back to the show. Father K also reveals that he lost his faith when his nephew died.
“When I returned to New Orleans I had nothing but hope of preventing a war between the vampires and the witches. But now the witches are out of control and you allowed an Original Vampire to take control of the Quarter. No, there is no hope, not for you, not for this city and certainly not for me.”


Back in the cemetery Klaus is waiting to hear Rebekah's side of the story before he metes out the punishment he thinks fits the crime. It's going to be the white oak stake isn't it though? Come on, he's way too far gone to listen to reason from either of his remaining siblings.
Elijah recalls another occasion when DotM beat Klaus so badly he thought he would actually kill him, Elijah tried to stop him and failed, but Bekah intervened with a sword aimed at her father vowing she would not let him hurt Klaus anymore.
Realising that his argument is starting to crumble a tad in the face of evidence that Rebekah has been more faithful to him than any of his siblings Klaus changes tack and attacks her relationship with Marcel but that one isn't going to get him anywhere, despite making the very valid point that when they fled New Orleans Marcel didn't follow her even though they were supposedly so in love. Instead he remained in the city and took everything the Mikaelsons had established.


After a bit of a scuffle Rebekah runs off again and we're back to brotherly recriminations. Does anyone else think that if Elijah and Rebekah had told Klaus half the stuff they are revealing now, oh, say a couple of centuries ago, he might not be the psychopath he is today?


*High-fives Davina* Yeah Cami, please stop trying to use your book learning on a bunch of Supernatural entities. I know they are almost all completely bonkers, but I seriously doubt there's anything in your fancy degree that can sort this lot out. And saying you made a choice to stop feeling sad about your brother's death...uh, didn't Klaus compel you to stop feeling sad?


Klaus is convinced that Rebekah wanted him dead when she summoned DotM so Elijah lays another bit of knowledge on him, the fact Rebekah was moments away from killing DotM to protect Klaus. One wonders why Elijah didn't do it himself. He had the weapon, the opportunity and motive enough. Another example of his failure to protect his younger brother despite his supposed dedication to doing just that.


Remember Elijah's dick move earlier, telling Klaus he was just like DotM? Well Klaus gets a nice bit of revenge by telling Elijah that they are more alike than Elijah wants to admit in attempt to provoke Elijah to use the white oak stake. I knew he was broken inside, but never realised DotM had destroyed him to the point where he'd rather have Elijah kill him, for good. Elijah admits he would make Klaus suffer to protect Rebekah, but wouldn't kill him. Klaus has a good chuckle about that before turning the tables and skewering big brother with Tunde's blade...just as Bekah rocks back up with the white oak stake.


I'm gonna take a moment just to say that this entire episode is an absolute tour de force of acting from our leads, specifically Miss Claire Holt and Mr Joseph Morgan. The twisted and broken love-hate relationship between them is visible in every single look and it's heart-breaking to watch these two characters who have been together for so long tear themselves apart.


Ooooh, hi Genevieve! Marcel has gone to the witches to try and help Davina and Rebekah at the same time, or more specifically to their new leader, the hot red head witch who is kinda to blame for this whole mess anyway. Hey...has no-one else noticed that yet? Genevieve agrees to bring down Celeste's spell in exchange for Davina. That cannot possibly be a good thing...for anyone. Davina seemingly still has a tonne of power from the Harvest ritual and Genevieve is about as bonkers as the rest of the supernatural denizens of New Orleans.


Klaus goads Bekah into admitting that perhaps she did want him dead instead of just gone. He stakes her and lets her fall. I sort of expected a slightly better ending for ...wait...she's not dead!
*happy dances*

“It was Mikael who ruined me.” says Klaus.
Rebekah replies “He ruined me too, that's what you forget. Centuries later each of us is broken. You with your anger and paranoia. Me with my fear of abandonment and poor Elijah. He dedicates himself to everyone but himself. We are the strongest creatures in the world yet we are damaged beyond repair. We live without hope but we will never die. We are the definition of cursed. Always and forever.”


Oh, joy, back to Davina the basket case and Cami the walking cliché (she said it, not me) who thinks that a mental asylum would be a smart place for a witch who died and came back. Clearly Marcel has accepted Genevieve's deal as he wants to give her back to the witches instead.


Klaus performs a little amateur surgery, hybrid style, to remove Tunde's blade from Elijah. None of the nice cutting and removing as demonstrated by Elijah or Genevieve, nope, straight into the chest cavity up to the wrist...like a bull at a gate. Not a scene to watch while you're eating, take it from me.


Genevieve takes her turn at putting Marcel in his place, he seems to be everyone's bitch this week. A little harsh when you're facing death at the hands of the man who effectively raised you for everyone to indulge in a little face to face character assassination but that's what we get. First Davina, then Father K, now the hot witch.


Klaus gives Rebekah her freedom with the words “perhaps it's time for a new story.”

Marcel challenges Klaus who simply walks away from him, it's Elijah who kicks his ass and promptly banishes him from the Quarter. Seems like several hours with Tunde's blade in his chest has jacked Elijah's badass levels to sky high, a fact even Klaus acknowledges when he points out that Elijah is starting to sound like him.


Bekah makes her farewells, first to Marcel and then to Hayley (which was when the tears properly started), telling her that her baby is probably the only thing that can give Klaus a fraction of what he wants, which is to become the man that the little boy who loved music and art should have become. I am so nervous to see how Klaus actually reacts when the baby is born. Will he become a doting dad? Will he still be the paranoid narcissist? How long does a hybrid baby take to be born anyway? Cos it seems like Hayley has had this miraculous bun in the oven for years!


Bekah drives off into the sunrise with the most incredible smile as we see Klaus with a box of his most treasured possessions, the knight he gave to Rebekah to comfort her the night of the storm.


I'm a little concerned, if that's Rebekah gone for good we're rapidly running out of Originals vampires for a show called...The Originals...but I am intrigued to see how things work with just Klaus and Elijah. So long as this doesn't spiral into them scrapping over Hayley I think I can take it. Elijah has enough to worry about with the now human again Jackson and Klaus's position is probably more tenuous than ever now since with the witches in town now able to use their powers against him and Marcel in rebellion.
