The Dirtiest Clean Book you will ever read part 2

When you are an adult reading Twilight, you tend to want to keep that information hidden, that was until I went to the Breaking Dawn midnight book release. I couldn't wait to get the last book of the series; I needed to see what happened. When the local Barnes & Noble had it on sale at midnight and a party to go with it, I couldn't wait; yet on the other hand I had reservations about being the only adult. After all it was in the Teen Section. The media was starting to promote the movie- Twilight and it was a teen flick with the MTV crowd swooning and clamoring for more.

I swallowed my pride, I could care less what people said or thought of me being an adult Twilight fan. I got to the store early staking it out to see who or what kind of people were heading in and the crowd was mixed to my surprise. I headed in; I was amazed there were so many Twilight fans in my area. I was clearly with my people. I met a lot of awesome people that night, played some games most of all I was the first person to get my book at midnight and I headed home as fast as I could to begin reading the final installment.

Around 6 am I had to put it down, I was rereading lines over and over and they just weren't making any sense. When I woke back up I picked up my book, a frown instantly was on my face as I realized I was almost done with the book. I didn't want to finish reading, if I did it was over no more love story, no more Edward and Bella and the amazing fantasy world I had grown to love and even dare I say obsess over.
I decided to clear my head, book clutched tight in my hands I went to relax by the pool. I couldn't pick the book up, it laid in my bag taunting me I even started to talk to myself and try to reason with why I should pick it up and finish it and why I shouldn't finishing it of course won out. I actually wept as I finished the book. The saga was over, what was I going to do now?

I got an odd look from a girl, my age that was at the pool. She asked why I was reading a kids book. I instantly turned and made sure she understood that this was not a kid’s book. It was a love story, a modern day spin on Romeo & Juliet. I even touted the series as being “The Dirtiest Clean Book” you will ever read. I wore her down. She said she would, to make sure of it I loaned her my copy of Twilight. Told her I was sure she would like it. Well she did. She returned my book the next day and went out and got her own set. Hated me when she got to New Moon and when Edward left her, left us, NOT Bella. I made her an instant convert. I felt as if I was spreading the gospel. Not to have stopped with Amy, I had my boyfriend’s mom, sister and even grandmother read the books, and they were instantly a hit.

About the time Twilight was coming out as a movie, Amy found out about the mall appearances and then the conventions. We were hooked junkies needing a fix. We went to Hot Topic and bought everything in sight we could. We got looks from the gawking teens trying to decide which shirt, we didn't bother deciding we bought them all, the perk of being an adult Twilight fan we have the jobs and money to do so.

The obsession was born, nurtured and growing some may say out of control but we didn't care. We wanted more and we got it. We went and saw Twilight at midnight, figuring we would see a mob of people we went early. To our surprise and disappointment there wasn't a mob. We were able to go in and sit comfortably and oogle the big screen when Edward Cullen made his way into the cafeteria. We audibly swooned, our eyes bugged out and we were in heaven we were with our people in the theater that night. The weekend the movie opened was special not only because our movie came to life on the big screen, but it was also my birthday, which meant I was a kid again seeing it over and over and having a movie party. I made all of my friends that weren't even Twilight fans see it. When we heard the news of how much money the movie made in the midnight showings alone and we were getting the second installment we couldn't be happier.

We waited around for what seemed like ages to see who was going to be cast as the Volturi and all the other roles that needed to be filled for New Moon. Boy were they spot on with who was cast. They didn't miss a mark when they chose Daniel Cudmore as the biggest baddest Volturi guard Felix, they multitalented Michael Sheen as the wicked and awesome Aro, Dakota Fanning as Jane.. the list went on and I was drooling. Perfect perfect and more perfection. I was drooling. I am such a huge fan of these actors in their other endeavors and now they are bringing characters of my fave book series alive I could hardly be contained. The only drawback that we as fans saw, we had a new director, could he carry on where Catherine Hardwicke left off and do us justice? Only time and previews would tell.

Part 3 coming to you next week. We saw the previews; snagged us copies of the script were we happy with what we saw and what happens when you get to meet your favorite Twilight actors at a convention in a town near you (or when you travel to one)

The dirtiest clean book you will ever read, part 1

The dirtiest clean book you will ever read. That was how Twilight was “sold” to me. I was in my local Barnes and Noble picking up a few magazines and a book or four and the girl who worked there asked me if I had read this book, when I mentioned my love for the Harry Potter books. She made a god awful face and skipped off upon her return she held the book in her hands resembling the cover of the book a wicked grin played on her lips when she said, “this is the dirtiest clean book you will ever read.” She placed the book in my hands and guaranteed I wouldn’t be sorry and walked away.

I glanced at this book, and made a face. A few other girls that worked in the store laughed and said I need to try it. I protested a bit. It was huge and I had seen the book before when I was recently in LA, glanced at it and walked on by it, uninterested. Now here once again the book had crossed my path. I looked over the book, shrugged and continued to the cash register with Twilight in hand.

I am not or had not been an avid reader at the time. This book was scary it had a lot of pages. I know you can't judge a book by its cover, but hands and an apple had not seemed to be appealing to me, but it was a bestseller, so I would try it. I am the girl that gives you two chapters, if you're lucky, to get into it and if I don’t its back to the store.

I crawled into bed that evening with Twilight in hand, ready to be fully disappointed at about eight o’clock. I opened the book, and by the time I looked at the clock again, it was closer to midnight and I was hooked and couldn't put the book down. At the end of every chapter I was ready to close the book, then I glanced at the beginning of the next chapter and I was off and running once again. It was an addiction, infectious and I was eating it up with every word I read giggling, smirking and laughing as I went along. Before I knew it I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with Edward Cullen.

By the time the sun came up I was almost finished with the book and hadn’t closed an eye. I had never read a book at such a feverish pace before. What was happening to me? I closed my eyes for a few hours, I wasn't a vampire after all I did need sleep, and when I woke ran back to Barnes and Noble for the next book in the series New Moon. Naturally the girls that worked there smiled from ear to ear and were pleased that I was as in love with the saga as they were. At the checkout they asked if I was coming back in a few weeks for the midnight sale of Breaking Dawn. Of course I said yes. I couldn't put the book down. The girl neglected to inform me that I was on book two and the next book coming was the fourth and final book of the series, this I only found out when I went home and did my own research.  At which time I found out that this amazing book was currently being made into a movie. My head was spinning and reeling from this news. I was happy beyond all I could imagine.

Over the next weeks, I completed the books and was ready for the midnight release of Breaking Dawn. I had done my research; I knew who was starring in the movies. I was following Stephenie Meyer’s site getting the quotes as she released them, downloading the music that she herself suggested to listen to while reading the books. I must say that she was spot on and made the experience even better. The only problem was I was an adult reading what was claimed to be a book for teens and I had no other people reading the series that I could talk to.

Stay tuned for the next installments of my editorial, on what happens at a midnight book release, finding out that Twitter and every other social media outlet has been taken over by the Twilight phenomenon, what happens when grown women find the Twilight conventions, cast appearances and who camps out for these “teen” books/movies.
