Music Monday – Michael Jackson

This Music Monday is all about the King. No, not Elvis… the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Most of my childhood music memories star him. My brother was, and still is, one of his biggest fans. He had the "Beat It" jacket, the glove, the "Billy Jean" hat, and even had the dance moves too. He did almost all of his school air bands to Micheal. My heart broke the day he passed away. I remember everything about that day...  it’s still hard to believe… but his music will always live on.

So sit back and enjoy some of my favorites.

Who's Loving You

Before En Vogue did it, there was the Jackson 5... Sing it, little Michael.

Ben

Who knew a song about a rat could be so good?

Off the Wall

To this day, this is one of my most favorite songs ever.

P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Pretty young things, repeat after me... NA NA NA.

She’s Out of My Life

Something about this song just gets me. So sad and heartbreaking.

Don’t Stop 'Til You Get Enough

Come on, you know you wanna dance.

I Just Can't Stop Loving You (with Siedah Garrett)

One of best duets.

Blame It on the Boogie

Can't help but dance when I hear this.

Billy Jean

I still can't moonwalk. Lol.

Beat It

I still know all the moves to this and I still want his piano keys t-shirt. Oh, and my brother had the jacket and the hair. Lol.

We Are Here to Change the World

Beyond bummed Disneyland doesn’t have Captain EO anymore.

The Way You Make Me Feel

I so wanted to be that girl he was chasing around.

Remember the Time

As if you could forget being in love with Michael.

You Are Not Alone

Even though this video is a little creepy, still love this one.

Thiller

The only zombies I ever liked are the ones in this video.

Leave Me Alone

They never did leave him alone.

Scream (with Janet Jackson)

Love this one for 2 reasons: A. it’s badass, and B. he says "F*CK”.

Man in the Mirror

One of the most powerful songs ever. Always gets me. Always.

So, there you have it – some of my favorite songs by the King of Pop. Tell me what your favorites are.

Music Monday – Guilty Pleasures

I had some help with this one because there is no way I could reveal all of my guilty pleasures. That being said, I hate half the songs on this blog. Okay… more than half. Maybe I only like one.

Thanks to all of my friends that helped me out this week.

from @joderss
One Direction  “What Makes You Beautiful”

It’s just wrong for an adult to even admit they like One Direction. Oddly enough, she’s not the only one on this list who mentioned them.

from @MirandaMajor
Hanson  “MMMBop”

F*cking Miranda.

Music Monday – Josh Damigo

Today, I wanna introduce you to a local indie artist that I just love. His name is Josh Damigo. I first heard Josh on my favorite morning radio show, The Show on Rock105.3. At first I thought he was a comedian because this guy is damn funny, but he started to sing and I was sold. I didn't get to see him live until almost a year later when he opened one night for Marcus Foster at the Casbah. Seeing him live was even better. I wasn't sure what I liked better – his jokes and stories or his amazing songs. Either way, Josh is the total package. So if you live in the San Diego area, you should check Josh out this summer. He is playing at SD County Fair and some free (that’s right, FREE!) shows at the House of Blues on Monday nights. I just happen to be going to tonight’s show at the HOB. So excited to share his music with my besties (we're on vacay).

Anyhow, here are some of my favorite songs by Mr. Damigo:

If I Had a Dollar

LA Is Not My Home

Portland

Pocket Change

Never Gonna Let You Go

Alright

For more details, check out his…... well, he has pretty much has every social media there is. :-) But here is the link to his Tumblr page and you will find the others there.

P.S. Be on the lookout for new music. I hear he is working on some new stuff. Woot woot! Can't wait.

Music Monday – Weezer

Today's Music Monday post is brought to you by the letters K and W.

K is for Karen and the W is for Weezer. Since tomorrow is her birthday (something she doesn't like to celebrate at all), I let her pick the music for the day. Her most favorite group is Weezer and since she is a control freak, I gave her control of the blog today.

Before we embark on the musical journey that is Weezer, I have to say thank you Karen for all that you have done for me. Without you I would be dead. ((truth))  And your birthday is definitely something to celebrate. (Ha. Twilight quoted.) I can't wait to see you when you get here on Friday. We can celebrate together with the other girls, drinks shots, everything all around – but no matter what, we’ll have an amazing time! Love you the most.

And now on to your (and my) Weezer education...

Always

Paperface

I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams (feat. Rachel Haden from that.dog)

Say It Ain’t So

Buddy Holly

Surf Wax America

El Scorcho

Across the Sea

Hash Pipe

Beverly Hills

Perfect Situation

Pork and Beans

Troublemaker

The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)

(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To

Memories

kmah88's note: These were just a few of my very favourite songs (and trust me, it was extremely hard narrowing it down to only 16). I tried to get a good sampling from their entire 20 years, but obviously I like some albums more over others. Hopefully there was a good mix of songs you already knew and songs that are new to you to elicit some fresh Weezer love.
Coming up after this, check out my Weezer Fangirl Adventures (part 1 & 2). It's a FANdemonium Weezer takeover!!

And Brina ~ thank you! For your words and letting me use your column to share my passion for my boys.
3 more days and I'm on my way to see you. WOOT!

Music Monday – Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, a day in the States where we honor and remember those who gave their lives for our country and our freedom. I have family and friends that have served in the US Armed Forces, mostly the Marines Corps. Both my grandfathers and my dad were marines, and today I wanna say thank you to all that have given your lives for the USA. I also wanna send love and thanks to the families of those who serve as well because your job is a hard one too.

Here are a few of my favorite Armed Force-ish themed songs. Sorry if you don't like country music, but hey, there aren't many hip-hop American loving songs out there.....

Toby Keith  “Call a Marine”

Dixie Chicks  “Travelin’ Soldier”

Toby Keith  “American Solider”

Big & Rich  “8th of November”

Tim McGraw  “If You’re Reading This”

On a happier note, today is also my son's 8th birthday, and even though he can't read this blog, I will play the music for him.
Happy Birthday Xman! You are my most favorite person in the whole wide world.  Mama loves you!!

“Ice Cream and Cake”

Music Monday – P!nk

Even though I am PurpleBrina and I have STRONG hate for the color pink, I do have a STRONG LOVE for the singer P!nk. She is almost the voice of my musical soul. I can relate to her songs on so many levels. I just love how she has always stayed true to who is she. She doesn't care what anyone had to say – she is who she is and she is gonna sing whatever she wants to. And I love that about her. She is real when so many others aren't.

It was really, really hard to pick some of my favorite songs because she has so many that I love. So here is like 17 of my top favorites. Listen to them all or just the ones you know or the one your don't. No matter – enjoy the musical stylings that are P!nk.

Don't Let Me Get Me

Music Monday – Songs That Hit Home

Do you ever hear a song and it just gives you chills ‘cause it’s so powerful or hits so close to home? It’s like the artist is singing your life. Well, that is what this Music Monday's songs are – songs that just sing the moments and times in my life. These songs mean soooooo much to me, I can't even begin to break it all down. They are songs that bring tears to my eyes because they are powerful to me. So I will let the music speak where I can't...

Papa Roach  "Scars"

I know I have posted this before but seriously, listen to these words. So powerful!

Lil Wayne feat. Bruno Mars  "Mirror"

I am not the biggest Lil Wayne fan,  but damn, this song is fucking amazing! Listen. Feel it. You will get it.

Kid Cudi  "Soundtrack 2 My Life"

The chorus is what got me with this song. It’s just him rapping his life.

Oddly enough, the next two songs are both on the same soundtrack – SpaceJam.

R. Kelly  "I Believe I Can Fly"

This one gets me every time I hear it. So freaking great. Believe in yourself and it’s yours.

Monica  "For You, I Will"

This is the song that always makes me think of my son, Xman. I would do anything for him.

Eminem feat. Kobe Bryant  "Talking to Myself"

Even though Kobe kinda sucks (Sorry Jay), Eminem is AFREAKINGMAZING! I love this song.

Bobby Long  "Left to Lie"

I know this was just in a Music Monday blog a few weeks ago, but this song stuck with me through having cancer.

Justin Timberlake  "Losing My Way"

I’ve been there. I have lost my way before. Have you?

Bob Marley  "Three little Birds"

Seriously, do I need to explain this one?!? Don't think so.

Michael Jackson  "Man in the Mirror"

This song is just beyond amazing.

Marcus Foster  "Solid Ground"

I know what he says this song is about, but for me it’s about the struggle of life and staying strong.

Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder & Gladys Knight  "That's What Friends Are For"

For my friends - I love you. You can count on me.

Sara McLachlan  "Angel"

I always think of 9/11 when I hear this song. #NeverForget

P!nk  "Run"

Another song to my little Xman.

Sam Bradley  "Only Human"

I could go on and on about how much I love this song and this guy. I even have the lyrics tattooed.

Whitney Houston  "The Star Spangled Banner"

Chills all over my body when I hear this. No one has ever sang it better.

I think I am going to end this with a very, very powerful song… Ice Ice Baby.
Hahahahaha, just kidding! I have so many more I could post and I will just have to fit them in somewhere down the line. So last but not least by any means…

John Lennon  "Imagine"

So, tell me… what songs give you chills, make you tear up, hit home for you? Leave a comment and let me know.
Thanks for stoppin’ by...

Music Monday – Earworms

Ever hear a song and then you can't get it out of your head? You don't even like the song but you can't stop singing it or hearing it everywhere you go. That, my friends, is what they call an earworm.

Well, prepare to hate me, ‘cause I am about to unleash some epic earworms!

Anna Kendrick  “Cups”

Love this movie but this song gets on my nerves.

Mumford & Sons  “I Will Wait”

When is the wait gonna be over?

Icona Pop  “I Love It”

You know what? I don't love it. Not. At. All.

Bruno Mars  "Just the Way You Are”

Oh, Bruno. When I hear this song... I just wanna turn the volume off.

LMFAO  “Party Rock Anthem"

Everyday I am shufflin’… you off my iPod.

Katy Perry  “Firework”

Do you ever feel like this song gets on your nerves?!

Lady Gaga  “Born This Way”

I was born this way too, but you don't hear me singing about it.

Taylor Swift  “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

Please, young men of Hollywood, stop dating her so she can stop singing song like this.

Pharrell Williams  “Happy”

Nothing about this song makes me happy.

The Lumineers  “Hey Ho”

Just say, “hey, GO AWAY!”

Robin Thicke  “Blurred Lines”

What rhymes with ‘bugs me’?

Lorde  “Royals”

I really loved this song. Then pop radio killed it for me.

Idina Menzel  “Let It Go”

OVERRATED.

Adele  “Rolling In the Deep”

After hearing it a thousand times, it rolls deep on my nerves.

I saved the best for last. And by the best, I mean the worst......

Miley Cyrus  “Wrecking Ball”

So in about two hours from now when you are still singing these songs...... you're welcome.
Try not to hate me too much.

Music Monday – Bobby Long

It’s been a few weeks since I gave you a single artist, so today I bring to you Bobby Long.

July 9, 2010, I was drunk in a bar in LA (shocking, I know) when I had the pleasure of hearing and seeing Bobby for the first time. I was blown away instantly by his multiple talents. Singer, songwriter, and multiple instrument player. At the time, he played with a band. I couldn't believe this shy looking man with floppy hair had such a powerful voice. I was sold!!

Bobby's musical style of telling a story with his words is truly amazing. I often tell friends that Bobby seems to be an old soul, sometimes channeling an old WW2 vet telling stories. He seems to always be telling stories whether on stage singing or in between songs. Story time with Bobby Long is the best.

Here are some of my favorite songs of his:

Devil Moon

Help You Mend

Dead and Done

She Won’t Leave

The Bounty of Mary Jane

Left to Lie

Two Years Old

Penance Fire Blues

Darling, I Remember the Drink

A Winter Tale

…and just ‘cause it’s an amazing duet, Crooked Sky with Marcus Foster

Bobby is currently doing some shows across the States. If he is coming to a city near you, get your ass out there and see him. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Check him out online:
And you can follow Bobby on:

Music Monday – Purple Songs

Since my birthday is Wednesday (sidenote: you still have time to shop for a gift *hint hint*), I thought I would post songs with purple in the title...... ‘cause I love purple!!

Jimi Hendrix  “Purple Haze”

D12  “Purple Pills”

Red Hot Chili Peppers  “Purple Stain”

And after about the third song. I realized most of the "purple" songs are about drugs (‘Songs About Drugs’ post coming soon) and since that was a total bust and Prince cannot be found on YouTube (what?!), here are some other songs that I would call "Me":

City High  “Caramel”

Pitbull  “She's Freaky”

Linkin Park  “In The End”

Papa Roach  “Scars”

Dixie Chicks  “Some Days You Gotta Dance”

Janet Jackson  “Someone to Call My Lover”

And because it’s my birthday, we must have........

SHOTS! (by LMFAO feat. Lil Jon)

Comments will be accepts as gifts. Hahahahahahaha.

Music Monday – 80's Big Hair Bands‏

As a rule, I am not a fan of men with long hair or make-up that looks better then mines, but I can't help but love 80's Big Hair Bands.
Blow the dust off your air guitars and get ready to rock out...

Guns N' Roses  “Paradise City”

Def Leppard  “Love Bites”

Mr. Big  “To Be with You"

Extreme  “More Than Words”

Warrant  “Cherry Pie”

Poison  “Nothin' but a Good Time”

Great White  “Once Bitten, Twice Shy”

Skid Row  “I Remember You”

Bon Jovi  “Wanted Dead or Alive”

KISS  “Rock and Roll All Nite”

Van Halen  “Jump”

ZZ Top  “Legs”

Whitesnake  “Here I Go Again”

Quiet Riot  “Cum on Feel the Noize”

Bad English  “When I See You Smile”

Scorpions  “Rock You Like a Hurricane”

AC/DC  “You Shook Me All Night Long”

This last band was one of my favorites back in the 80's because when I was going through my "rock phase", it was awesome to see a hard rock band that added COLOR to the sea of white. Lol

Living Colour  “Cult of Personality”

So did I forget anyone??? 'Cause I wanted to add Metallica, but most of their songs that I knew were from the 90's...
Let me know what you think.
